The Wingrove Family Fund

The Wingrove Family Fund was established in 2013 in memory of Trevor Wingrove, a beloved local lacrosse star and respected City of Coquitlam manager who passed away from cancer at the age of 42 in 2010. The fund supports bursary awards for student-athletes involved in lacrosse through the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association.

Originally, the Trevor Wingrove Bursary Award was created to support post-secondary education or training for a student-athlete who had played lacrosse with the Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association for at least two years. Recipients must be graduating from high school, demonstrate strong academic performance, and embody the qualities that made Trevor an inspiration both on and off the lacrosse box floor: leadership, dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship. The award was given to both male and female players.

In 2022, the Les Wingrove Bursary Award was introduced to honor Trevor’s father, Les Wingrove, a foundational figure in Coquitlam’s lacrosse community. From that year forward, the Trevor Wingrove Bursary has been awarded to a male student-athlete, and the Les Wingrove Bursary to a female student-athlete, ensuring equal recognition and celebrating the outstanding contributions of both Trevor and Les to lacrosse and the broader community.

Les Wingrove’s legacy includes co-founding the modern Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association in 1976, the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs in 1979, serving on numerous city sports committees, and initiating the creation of the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Les passed away in 2018 at the age of 74.

The Wingrove Family has partnered with the Coquitlam Foundation and we are proud that 18 student-athletes have received financial assistance for their post-secondary education goals.
